Mighty Quinn’s: New York-Style BBQ Now In Manila

Team OrangeBy Team OrangeDecember 15, 20163 Comments3 Mins Read

Mighty Quinn’s, the highly-loved barbeque joint in New York City, is now smoking in Manila!

The Mighty Quinn’s brand is brought in by the Standard Group, the people behind the number one katsu restaurant In the Philippines, Yabu: House of Katsu and the same group who brought In world-famous ramen, Ippudo to the Philippines.

The Standard Group, now on their 5th year in the industry have worked with masters of the kitchen and through the years has introduced to us Katsu Master, Kazuya Takeda for Yabu, Ramen King, Shigemi Kawahara for Ippudo, and now, Hugh Mangum, as the Barbeque Pitmaster of Mighty Quinn’s. Just like how they wanted to introduce authentic katsu to the Philippines back in 2011, now they are bringing the experience of authentic American barbeque to Filipinos.

The Standard Group has flown in brainchild and Pitmaster himself, Hugh Mangum, also hailed as “Barbeque King of New York”, to show us Mighty Quinn’s slow-smoked techniques with his roots, Texas and North Carolina, which creates a distinct, “New York-style” barbeque, the first of its kind.

After becoming an overnight star in Smorgasburg, Brooklyn’s food market, Hugh, with his meats selling out in 90 minutes and creating packed lines, his barbeque began turning heads in the press. Not long after, Hugh, along with partners Micha Magid and Christos Gourmos set up shop in the East Village in December 2012, giving birth to Mighty Quinn’s flagship location.

With enough brisket and a full menu offer to fill up almost 500 hungry bellies daily, Mighty Quinn’s garnered hefty media attention, with the New York Times scoring it as the highest-rated barbeque in New York, at 2 and a half stars, a rare feat for fast-casual restaurants. Soon after, New York Times also named Mighty Quinn’s as Most Prized Performer and the Top 10 Best Restaurants 2013.

Hugh says that his approach to Mighty Quinn’s meats is simple — it’s all about sourcing the best quality ingredients and cooking it old-school with wood and time, adding just the right amount of salt and spice to let that lovely marriage of process and product evolve into something transcendent.

Today, the Standard Group has brought in Mighty Quinn’s to show that even halfway around the world; there is something to love about the New York-style barbeque, representing Hugh’s craft made of several years of smoking meats and copious piles of wood. Mighty Quinn’s slow-smoked goodness transcends countries and cultures and brings them together in a universal love for good, old-fashioned barbeque.
