MOVIE REVIEW: ANG BABAE SA SEPTIC TANK
It’s been a long time since I watched a movie all by myself… and to actually pay for my own movie ticket. Being a blogger, I get invites to attend press screening, premiere nights, advance and block screenings. And it’s rare that I watch a pinoy movie. The last time I bothered to watched was “Ang Tanging Ina Ninyong Lahat Last Na ‘To” and “Rosario” during the Metro Manila Film Festival.
Anyways, I skipped covering events today and decided to watch a tagalog film after a very long meeting I did regarding Westlife‘s upcoming Gravity Tour in the Philippines (more details about that in my future blog entry). I’ve been itching to watch “Babae Sa Septic Tank” after attending its press conference held at the Dolphy Theater in ABS-CBN compound last July 29. Ms. Eugene Domingo is not just a talented actress but also an intelligent person. You can feel how amazing this woman is.
The trailer itself gives me the impression that this is something I shouldn’t miss. And because I’ve been a fan of Ms. Eugene Domingo since her supporting role days at “Ang Tanging Ina” with Ai Ai Delas Alas, I always thought she will be a star of her own. And she didn’t fail me. Although I still love her as Kimmy Dora, her latest movie shows how versatile she is as an actress. I will give her credit for showing almost all kinds of emotion for this film. She does comedy, drama, and even musical!
For the benefit of not spoiling the movie (although 30,000 people have already seen this at the recently-concluded Cinemalaya Film Festival), I will just recommend you seeing this film because it shows how filming an indie film works. And Ms. Eugene Domingo, portraying an exaggerated version of herself, is hilarious enough. One particular scene that I loved was the part where she’s doing the three (3) kinds of acting: “The Elevator” acting, “The TV Patrol” acting, and “The No Acting, Acting”. Hahahahaha.
Also, I must say that Callalily‘s vocalist Kian Cipriano is a revelation to this film. The guy is a natural actor. I’m looking forward seeing him doing more films. And about JM De Guzman, this guy will definitely go a long way. I had the chance to work with him for an indie film (which I think will never release) and he’s got the looks and the depth of a future drama actor. I will totally agree if he becomes the next John Lloyd Cruz or even Piolo Pascual. His edge though is he is younger and he can even sing! I heard his first single of his debut album and it’s a good original song which surprisingly he also composed.
Anyways, back to “Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank”… This is a movie that doesn’t need too much thinking. You will appreciate it just how it was done. And having Eugene Domingo, or THE Eugene Domingo in this film makes it worth your money.
