The O2 Silver Clef Awards returned to celebrate a major milestone, marking 50 years of the life-changing music therapy charity, Nordoff and Robbins. Moving to London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall for the special anniversary gala, the star-studded evening was packed with heavy-hitting accolades, major fundraising milestones, and a massive dose of “Girl Power.”

Among the night’s biggest honorees was Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm—known affectionately worldwide as Melanie C—who took home the prestigious Global Impact Award.

A Very Emotional, “Spicy” Anniversary

The recognition arrived at a highly significant moment for Melanie. The ceremony took place just a day after the milestone 30th anniversary of the Spice Girls’ iconic debut single, “Wannabe.”

During her acceptance speech, Melanie made sure to honor the other four women who shared that incredible journey with her, dedicating a beautiful portion of her thank-you to her bandmates:

“I have to thank four very important women. I wouldn’t be standing here, I wouldn’t have had this global impact, without my girls: Geri, Mel B, Emma, and Victoria. We came together, and we achieved our wildest dreams, and we changed our lives forever, and the world forever, some would say.”

Reflecting further on the emotional impact of the anniversary, she shared how special the timing felt:

“It was a very emotional day yesterday. We’re all in touch obviously, all of the girls, we’re so grateful and respectful of each other. Seeing the song in shops had been so exciting, because it was everything we dreamed of. We knew exactly what we wanted to achieve but nobody imagined the scale of what we went on to do. We went out, we conquered the world. We were told that we couldn’t, and we wouldn’t. But we did.” “Luckily it stayed there long enough that, on the third week, we got into the studio. And then it went on to spend seven weeks [at number one], so we had nothing to worry about, really.”

Girl Power in Full Effect

Taking to social media after the event to digest the gravity of the evening, Melanie couldn’t hide her excitement. “Last night was a deeply inspiring evening,” she wrote. “We celebrated the power of music therapy and 50 years of the most beautiful charity Nordoff and Robbins at the Silver Clef awards. Lots of brilliant artists received awards, girl power was in full effect!“

She was quick to share the spotlight, offering her praise to fellow winners. “Congratulations to the amazing P!NK, JADE, Lily Allen, Rachel [Chinouriri], Jessie J and the boys! I was chuffed to bits and honoured to pick up the global impact award in this very spicy week 😊.”

A Walk Down “Spice World” Memory Lane

In one of the most delightful highlights of the gala, Melanie’s award was presented to her by a very familiar face from her past: actor Richard E. Grant. Grant famously played the Spice Girls’ high-strung, frantic manager, Clifford, in the cult-classic 1997 film Spice World.

True to the spirit of the evening, Grant dug deep into his wardrobe and presented the award wearing one of his original, sparkling pink suits from the movie.

Melanie expressed her immense gratitude to the actor for the nostalgic reunion: “Thank you so so much to the wonderful Richard E. Grant for finding time in a hectic filming schedule to present my award in full Clifford regalia!! What a legend, I love you ❤️.”

Connecting Through Music

Beyond the nostalgia, Melanie underscored the core mission of Nordoff and Robbins—providing music therapy to people navigating difficult life conditions, including dementia, autism, brain injuries, and trauma.

“Receiving the Global Impact Award at the O2 Silver Clef Awards is such an honour. Music has always been my way of connecting with people all over the world, so it’s amazing to be recognised by Nordoff and Robbins, not just for the songs, but for the impact beyond them.”
