bry. debuts with “Space to Start,” with a Cross-Cultural Trio

A new project is taking shape in Manila’s indie music scene—one rooted not in reinvention, but in quiet transition.

bry., a three-piece indie alternative pop band, will release their debut single, “Space to Start,” on April 24, ahead of their official band launch on May 23.

The band is led by singer/songwriter Brian Sombero, formerly of BRISOM, whose previous work helped define a generation of Filipino indie listeners. But bry. doesn’t pick up where things left off, it begins somewhere more internal.

Formed in the aftermath of a deeply introspective period in late 2025, bry. emerged not as a continuation, but as a response. The songs were written during a time when clarity wasn’t immediate, when things felt unresolved, and expression came in fragments rather than conclusions.

“Space to Start,” the band’s debut single, was one of the first songs to take shape from that period. Built on a stripped-down, cinematic arrangement, it doesn’t rush toward a climax. Instead, it allows space; for pauses, for reflection, and for the listener to meet the song where they are.

“It wasn’t meant to be a big statement,” the band shares. “It just felt like something that needed to exist.”

During this time, Sombero found new creative footing alongside American bassist Sean Hunt and German drummer Lukas Samuel Hanschmann who are both active musicians in their own right, coming from bands and genres outside of bry.’s sonic world. What began as a collaboration gradually became a connection shaped by contrast: different influences, different backgrounds, and a shared instinct for restraint.

That dynamic became foundational to bry.’s identity. Rather than blending into a single dominant sound, the trio allows these differences to coexist by adding subtle layers and texture that give the music its quiet complexity.

Together, they developed a sound that leans into restraint: minimal, emotionally precise, and quietly immersive. They’ve loosely referred to it as Trauma Pop, not as a fixed label, but as a way of describing music that transforms internal noise into something simple, repeatable, and deeply felt.

Rather than dramatizing emotion, bry. sits with it.

Following the release of “Space to Start,” the band will officially launch on May 23, with more music scheduled throughout the year, including additional singles and an EP set for release in September.

As they begin to introduce themselves, bry. is building a presence that mirrors their sound—intimate, observational, and intentionally understated—inviting listeners not just to hear the music, but to stay with it.

“Space to Start” will be available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, starting April 24.
